Bodybuilding Exercises/Workout Order?

Sunday, September 6th, 2009
Shane asked:

So I have a question about in what order should I do the bodybuilding exercises in an advanced workout plan that is listed here: http://fitness.scoobysworkshop.com/schedadvanced.htm

For an example if I have the following plan for monday:

“Chest: Three sets of dumbbell flys, 5-8 reps per set with 2-3min between sets. Three sets of dumbbell press, 5-8 reps per set with 2-3min between sets. Three sets of incline press, 5-8 reps per set with 2-3min between sets. Three sets of incline dumbbell flys, 5-8 reps per set with 2-3 min between sets.
Abs: three sets each of straight crunches, left crunches, and right crunches.”

1. Should I do three sets of of dumbbell flys in a row, then do three sets of dumbbell presses in a row and move down with the same pattern until I’m finishing the whole workout by doing three sets of right cruches in a row. (that just doesn’t make sense)

OR

2. I do one set of dumbbell flys then do one set of dumbbell presses, move down with the same pattern until finishing with one set of left crunches and right crunches and then starting the whole ring from the start until I’ve made 3 rings.

OR ALSO

3. Should I begin with doing ALL the chest exercises and then finish by doing ALL the abs exercises?

Some tips about this would be very helpful.
Thx!

Question about bodybuilding?

Saturday, September 5th, 2009
Dolkite asked:

I’m 6′3″, about 250 lbs. I admit that most of it is fat…I’m getting a fitness test done tomorrow, so I will know more.

I’ve read a lot about skinny guys eating enormous amounts of food to help them get bigger. Obviously, this is not my problem, and I admit that, given a magic choice, I’d rather be six inches shorter and a hundred pounds lighter. However, my question is this: although my body weight is probably at least 30% fat (and it’s due to excessive food and alcohol, not genes…I don’t have an overly fat family), does that mean I’d do best to concentrate on muscle building?

I still plan on losing fat and doing cardio and such, but I wonder what focus I should take. I’m trying to be as realistic as I can despite what I wish could be. Can anyone offer some advice on what approach I should take based on my height, weight, and build?

This is me about 15 lbs lighter than I am now. In case anyone is wondering, it was taken at Yosemite National Park.

Joining a new gym that specializes in Bodybuilding?

Monday, August 24th, 2009
vman asked:

I am going to join a new gym because I left my old gym because the people from there were not nice. But I am finding it hard to join a gym because I want to join a gym that specializes in bodybuilding because that’s what I am want to become. And I dont know if I should join a health centre gym like fitness first or join a ******** weightlifters gym because I am not sure if either one of them will be able to give me some proper advice on training to become a bodybuilder.

Bodybuilders! Help me out, I need some fitness advice?

Nick C asked:

I want to buy a book on fundamentals of bodybuilding, but there are so many to choose from. I thought Arnold’s book looked good, but was he actually involved in the creation or is it really just a generic text with his endorsement? And my other worry is how up to date it is since Arnie’s been out of the game for a while. I want to filter through the mess of what supps work and what’s just hype. I want my time and money spent on fitness to achieve max results for what I put into it instead of just working hard. I want to work smart, tell me what to read!!!

P.S. My goal is to get ripped, healthy, without roids. I trying more for the Men’s Health type of body than the Mr. Universe type of body. I don’t need to be huge, just really toned and only medium mass. Thanks in advance!

I’m 5′9″ and I’d like to be 185lb with 5-7% bodyfat. I’m currently 168lb and 17%. I’m 30 years old.

Are protein supplements really necessary for bodybuilders?

The boy from London asked:

Or is it all hype engineered by the fitness industry to make some serious bucks?

Please ONLY answer this if you have successfully built some good level of muscle mass. I would like to hear from those who have actually succeeded in bodybuilding. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks to whoever answered my previous question, lots of great answers…
Hi,
I was researching a bit, and I figured out some good exercises for six pack, etc…I am not overweight, but I definitely am not skinny….I have about 15-20% Body Fat…so my question….could I get some nice “looks” with good cardio and core exercises…about 1 hr a day? I am also getting a medicine ball, stability ball, kettlebell, and resistance bands to work with….now, I dont wanna get too buffish like this:
http://z.about.com/d/bodybuilding/1/0/h/1/Abs2.JPG
or even this

just more along the lines of this:
http://www.calvinklein.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3171587
Thanks. BTW…I have no gym to go to, just bodyweight, and the above listed materials I will be getting….
I also have a stationary bike and a gazelle (the equipment, not the animal).
And I have a lot of room to run if need be…got a whole forest path in my town.
Yeah, I’m also starting to aim for about 1500 calories a day.
